Great Western Malting Facility Expansion
VAA designed critical components, overcoming a challenging footprint, to help increase processing capacity by 120 percent.
Pocatello, ID
Challenge
Design was challenging due to the small site footprint. In addition, the germination and kiln vessels in the project are considered equipment, and are not able to support any additional weight.
Solution
VAA designed the 270-ton transfer conveyor bridges to suspend across a nearly 200 foot span above the vessels. As a fast-tracked design-build project, the team had four months prior to construction to issue plans and be substantially complete with drawings over the course of a year. The team’s efforts on the project ultimately increased Great Western Malting’s process capacity by 120 percent.
Results
- Increased process capacity by 120 percent
- Designed 270-ton transfer conveyor bridges to suspend across a nearly 200 foot span
- Fast-tracked plans in 4 months,completed designs within year
- Utilized design to accomplish expansion despite small footprint
