A summer job during college does not usually lead to career aspirations; however, Shawn’s work for several summers in commercial concrete construction sparked his interest in a structural engineering career. His role managing agribusiness and industrial projects began in those months trying to understand engineering drawings and direct a construction crew.

At VAA, Shawn applies his practical and technical knowledge to designing a variety of structures, including grain storage / handling, flour milling and fertilizer facilities. His Associate role is a combination of delivering engineering services to meet client construction goals and empowering others to grow professionally.

As the manager of the South Dakota office, Shawn directly contributes to VAA’s growth. He sees this expansion as an opportunity to be more available to our existing clients in the area and to develop new client relationships. Leading team members in the SD office and the VAA Headquarters, Shawn’s inter-office management seamlessly connects his group’s efforts with the company’s overall business and cultural goals.
