Pueblo of Isleta Hotel & Convention Center
- DESIGNED SEVEN-STORY POST-TENSIONED CONCRETE TOWER
- INCORPORATED ICONIC ATRIUM VISIBLE UP TO 6 MILES AWAY
- ADDED INDOOR/OUTDOOR POOL AND RETAIL SPACE
- CREATED 30-BUS-CAPACITY PORTE COCHERE
VAA provided civil and structural engineering for a 300,000 SF addition.
The Pueblo of Isleta Hotel and Convention Center is a four-star, family destination resort with 200 guest rooms and 10 luxury suites. The atrium exterior skin creates a feather pattern of glass and structural steel tube space frames running 100 feet into the air which intersect the building on two sides. The 29-acre site required 866 parking stalls, valet lots, a valet entrance, a tour bus drop-off area, as well as site roadways and circulation. A complex hydrology and utility design was required to accommodate the extensive parking and entrance layout. Alternative stormwater treatment methods were also implemented to control stormwater flow rate and treatment.

Minikahda Country Club Ballroom
- DESIGNED 6,500 SF BALLROOM AND ROOFTOP DECK
- ADDED 200 SF ROOFTOP BAR
- INCLUDED 700 SF PRE-FUNCTION SPACE
VAA provided engineering for a 6,500 SF ballroom and roof deck replacement through unforeseen conditions due to building age.
The oldest country club west of the Mississippi, the Minikahda Club’s original clubhouse was built in 1898 with many additions added in later years. The project required extensive historical document research and onsite verification. VAA worked closely with construction and architectural partners to provide a structural design that nestled the new steel-framed ballroom into the arms of the historic wood building.
Our engineers strengthened existing elements where needed and responded quickly, creatively, and competently when unforeseen foundation and framing conditions were uncovered. VAA collaborated with club management and construction and architectural partners to ensure that construction progressed seamlessly while maintaining full functionality of the existing basement and attic mechanical, fire protection, and plumbing systems.
True Friends Camp Courage Recreation Center
- DESIGNED 26,000 SF RECREATION CENTER
- ENGINEERED COMPLEX DESIGN MODICATIONS TO ACCOMMODATE WOODED HILL AND MARSH
- DESIGNED GYMNASIUM BUILDING TO WITHSTAND 250 MPH WINDS
VAA provided architectural, structural and civil engineering for the new 26,000 SF True Friends Camp Courage Recreation Center.
The nearly 26,000 SF facility includes a large indoor pool with splash pad and a gymnasium with a spectator viewing platform and a climbing wall. The new recreation center is located on a fully wooded hill amongst wetlands and needed to smoothly connect with multiple camp buildings. Engineers devoted extensive attention to creating a building design that addressed the difficulties of this setting.
