VAA led an efficient expansion of a key facility operated by the oldest malting company in the Western U.S., increasing process capacity by 120 percent.
Pertaining to the site’s small footprint and sensitive equipment, VAA persevered through design challenges and expedited deadlines at the facility. Working within these constraints, VAA’s multi-disciplinary team designed additions around limited space and stringent utility requirements. The expansion included a new steeping building, four germination vessels, a kiln vessel, transfer systems, and utility buildings.
As a fast-tracked design-build project, VAA delivered plans four months prior to construction and supplied drawings over the course of a year. Headlined by the implementation of 270-ton transfer conveyor bridges, the process capacity increased by 120 percent following project completion.

Malt Production Facilities

VAA provided designs and facility layout for the expansion of two facilities, each now capable of producing 25,000 metric tons of malt per year.
Both facility designs were complicated by the size and location of existing structures, as well as small site footprints. VAA repurposed existing structures into the design and facility layout which included grain receiving, malt production systems, storage, loadout, roasting, bagging and tote filling. Due to the location in a floodplain, the facility design had strict adherence to FEMA guidelines.
